Smith has a reputation as one of modern country’s hottest young artists, an indie performer with a dedicated following built primarily through social media and attracting fans on a grassroots level. A career that began in small, local bars near his hometown of Jefferson, Ga., has led to sold out shows across the country.
“It’s impressive how Corey (Smith) has developed such a strong and loyal listener base through social media and the web,” said Jay Howard, president of JHE Production Group Inc. and event promoter and producer. “We’ve been doing this for 15 years and for the first time will experience the power of a viral movement at Food Lion Speed Street. That movement is lured by Corey’s lyrics which apply uniquely to each person yet inspire all.”

To minimize the amount of waste this year, plastic bottles and aluminum cans will be recycled. NO SURPRISE-FOOD LION SPEED STREET CONTINUED ITS SUCCESS IN 2004
CONCORD, N.C. (June 1, 2004) – Food Lion Speed Street 2004 proved to be a huge hit in uptown Charlotte, once again as record crowds enjoyed a variety of musical acts, exhibits and appearances by a host of local and national celebrities. More than 400,000 were on hand for the three-day festival. Close to 300,000 took part in 2003’s festival. As with any outdoor event, mother nature may or may not cooperate. A brief rain shower began at the most appropriate time on Saturday evening – when the legendary band Creedence Clearwater Revisited sang their hit tune, “Who Will Stop The Rain”, the clouds opened up. But those in attendance didn’t let this dampen their spirits. And the shower moved through the Charlotte area quickly. Actually just in time for the impressive fireworks display that took place over the uptown skies, spelling out NEXTEL, who sponsored the display. The American Idols from the hit show on FOX, entertained the crowd at Food Lion Speed Street with their rendition of “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”, which they also performed in pre-race ceremonies before the Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. “We couldn’t be happier with the success of this year’s Food Lion Speed Street,” said Dave Godfredson, Director of Advertising and Promotions at Food Lion, LLC. “The entertainment lineup provided something for everyone, the exhibits just keep getting bigger and better and the celebrity list continues to grow each year. “Each year we strive to make this the best possible outing for people of all ages. With more than 18 years of entertainment production, JHE Production Group, Inc., has an outstanding reputation for excellence in event production and management.
600 FESTIVAL ELECTS TO PUT MORE FOCUS INTO FOOD LION SPEED STREET; ANNUAL PARADE WILL NOT BE HELD
CONCORD, N.C. (May 6, 2004) – The 600 Festival Association has decided that its annual kick-off parade for Food Lion Speed Street will not be held this year. This due in part because of the demand on the personal appearance schedule for NASCAR drivers, it has become extremely difficult to get commitments to participate in the parade. Many drivers will make individual appearances throughout Charlotte during the two weeks, including Food Lion Speed Street. “It was a difficult decision for us to make regarding whether or not to have the annual parade,” said Jay Howard, executive director of the 600 Festival. “Many in and around our community enjoyed participating and watching the parade. But Food Lion Speed Street is a much more interactive opportunity for the fans.” For the past 10 years, Food Lion Speed Street has provided a unique entertainment source for those wanting a good time in a clean atmosphere. This year’s event will be held on May 27-29 and offers three stages of various live musical acts, interactive exhibits, food vendors and celebrities all at no admission charge. More than 300,000 attended Food Lion Speed Street in 2003 and that number will probably increase as a host of new musical acts, celebrities, exhibits and vendors are ready to take to the streets of Charlotte. Food Lion Speed Street, in conjunction with the 600 Festival, is produced by JHE Production Group, Inc. This year marks the 19th year for JHE Production Group, Inc. producing Motorsports entertainment in Charlotte during May.

This three-day event spans eight city blocks and offers four stages of various live musical acts, interactive exhibits, food vendors and celebrities all at no admission charge. FOOD LION SPEED STREET HOSTS HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS DESPITE INCLIMATE WEATHER
CONCORD, N.C. (June 4, 2003)— More than 300,000 people visited the 600 Festival Association’s Food Lion Speed Street during its three-day run, May 22-24. This year’s unusual weather pattern producing large amounts of rain did not keep race fans, music fans or fun fans from enjoying what has unofficially become the kick-off to Memorial Day weekend in uptown Charlotte. No admission, a broad spectrum of national musical talent, racing celebrities, interactive exhibits and of course, food, again provided a successful combination. And while overcast skies held back celestial bodies, it was the more than 20 NASCAR and 40 musical stars that motivated festival goers to brave the elements. “The fans were outstanding,” said Jay Howard, director of the 600 Festival Association. “They were determined to enjoy themselves and we were just as determined to bring them Food Lion Speed Street.” “We partner with some of the best,” continued Howard. “These people can adapt their abilities, knowledge and creativity to whatever the challenge.” That flexibility became necessary more than once during the event, but no more so than during opening ceremonies. Persistent rain required that an oversized tent be constructed to accommodate the festivities during which Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory and Dave Godfredson, the director of advertising and promotions for Food Lion, LLC, welcomed everyone to the opening of Food Lion Speed Street. The mayor then surprised those in attendance when he raised a street sign replica and officially renamed 1st Street in uptown Charlotte to Victory Lane. “The naming of Victory Lane is a permanent marker of this city’s support of the tremendous impact NASCAR racing has in this community,” said Mayor McCrory. A racecar unveiling featuring Dale Earnhardt Jr., Steve Park and Michael Waltrip and a concert performance by popular recording artist Third Eye Blind followed the official proclamation. The next evening, the largest ever Food Lion Speed Street concert crowd packed the stage and four levels of an adjacent parking deck as Budweiser presented Grammy nominated rock band 3 Doors Down. Their music included their latest single, “The Road I’m On,” which the band debuted earlier in the week on “The Late Show with David Letterman.” The band and the single have NASCAR ties. Members of 3 Doors Down were in nearby Concord earlier this year to film the video for “The Road I’m On” with NASCAR favorites Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Tony Stewart. The U.S. Air Force Tops in Blue, an active duty special unit of performers, added a new musical twist this year as part of the Lowe’s USO Show. Their patriotic renditions provided the perfect backdrop as Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse, Team Lowe’s Racing and the United States Organizations (USO) combined to implement “Operation USO Care Package.” The program offered fans at Food Lion Speed Street the opportunity to ship notes of encouragement and much needed personal supplies to our troops overseas. As in years past, Food Lion Speed Street closed on the third day following a special concert performance. This year, in spite of driving rain, fans jammed as David Lee Roth closed out the event with “Jump” choreographed to a fireworks spectacular.

(CONCORD, N.C. - March 27, 2003) - Even as top-flight musical entertainment, parade entries and exhibits are being booked for the 600 Festival Association's 23rd year of bringing the UAW-GM Teamwork Parade and 9th year of Food Lion Speed Street to the Charlotte area, the events continue to receive honors, encouraging participation from others. Chevrolet has presented the 600 Festival Association since 1995. At that time, company officials signed a one-year agreement. They have continued to renew that commitment annually for the last eight years while the relationship has grown. This year the 600 Festival board of directors is able to announce a multi-year agreement has been reached that will cement the partnership through the year 2005. "We have always valued our partnership with Chevrolet, and by extension with the area Chevy dealers," said Jay Howard, 600 Festival Association executive director. "This multi-year deal is confirmation that Chevrolet executives also value the partnership and their involvement with the 600 Festival. As our events have exploded in popularity, they have provided a grassroots venue for companies to interact with their customers."The Omni Hotel is another company whose involvement with the 600 Festival Association has continued to evolve. While attending to the past needs of the 600 Festival staff, this year The Omni Charlotte, located in the heart of the 600 Festival Association's Food Lion Speed Street, will serve as that event's official hotel. Festival organizers and others will headquarter at the hotel during Food Lion Speed Street's three-day run, May 22-24. The hotel offers many amenities and is noted for its elegance and outstanding service."We are honored and thrilled to be associated with such an incredible event," said Zach Curry, director of sales and marketing for The Charlotte Omni. "This event is so well known and thousands of people look forward to it each year."As further evidence of the 600 Festival Association's popularity, the Southeast Tourism Society has named the Festival's 2003 events in their "Top 20 Events for the Month of May." This is the 10th straight year the Association has received this honor from this organization dedicated to developing, marketing and promoting travel to and within the southeastern United States."None of these announcements are possible without the support of the dedicated men and women who serve on the 600 Festival Association's board, our sponsors, and the city of Charlotte," said Howard. "The UAW-GM Teamwork Parade and Food Lion Speed Street have unofficially become the kickoff to Memorial Day weekend in this area, and continue to attract more than 500,000 people from all over the world." The 600 Festival Association is a non-profit organization committed to raising the profile of the Charlotte, N.C., area and of NASCAR racing. Its 2003 events will begin with the UAW-GM Teamwork Parade and Fireworks on Tuesday evening, May 20, in uptown Charlotte. The opening of Food Lion Speed Street follows the parade, Thursday morning, May 22. Here eight city blocks are transformed, packing interactive exhibits, vendors preparing food street-side and four stages rotating local and national acts covering a wide range of musical preferences. Keeping with the racing theme and helping to promote NASCAR activities at nearby Lowe's Motor Speedway, NASCAR stars make regular appearances on Food Lion Speed Street for autographs and televised "meet and greet" sessions and interviews.
600 FESTIVAL ASSOCIATION BRINGS MUSICAL DIVERSITY TO FOOD LION SPEED STREET 2003 OFFERING ALTERNATIVE TO CLASSIC
(CONCORD, N.C. - March 13, 2003) - Food Lion Speed Street will be "jammin'" again this May as a broad spectrum of musical talent has been booked for the annual event, May 22-24. Acts as diverse as 3 Doors Down, Kansas, Neal McCoy, longtime Van Halen front man David Lee Roth, Johnny Rivers, Aaron Tippin and Chevelle are taking to one of the three entertainment stages positioned throughout the eight-block area. Grammy nominated alternative band 3 Doors Down is making its first Charlotte-area appearance in nearly two years on Friday night, May 23. The band will perform music from its latest CD, "Away From the Sun," including the Grammy nominated single, "When I'm Gone." The group makes a nice transition to racing not only through Food Lion Speed Street, but in their video production as well. The band was in town earlier this week taping the music video for another song entitled, "The Road I'm On," from the same CD. It features two of NASCAR Winston Cup's hottest young stars, 2002 series champion Tony Stewart and Dale Earnhardt Jr. The video's premise is that the two racers pull up beside a young lady at a stoplight, but soon forget vying for her attentions when it becomes evident that a drag race between the two is in the offing. The video is set to begin airing on music video channels near the time the band plays at Food Lion Speed Street. "As attendance on Food Lion Speed Street grows each year, so does the distinctiveness of our audience's musical taste," said Jay Howard, director of the 600 Festival Association. "The musical entertainment we book reflects not only their tastes, but the "something for everyone" atmosphere for which this festival has become renowned." The 600 Festival Association is a non-profit organization committed to raising the profile of the Charlotte, N.C., area and the sport of NASCAR racing. Food Lion Speed Street is the Association's largest event, entertaining more than 400,000 people last year. It combines no admission with plenty to see and do, great food, national acts, celebrities and lots of racing related venues. Increased attendance has been attributed to the efforts of JHE Production Group and the outstanding partnerships of many of the 600 Festival Association's sponsors like Chevrolet, Food Lion, Coca-Cola, Budweiser and Miller Lite. "We have long enjoyed our association with the 600 Festival Association, and especially Food Lion Speed Street," said Dave Godfredson, director of advertising and promotions for Food Lion LLC. "We believe the variety of entertainment options and top-notch musical entertainment like this year's band lineup contribute to the tremendous growth this event has experienced.
FOOD LION SPEED STREET
(CONCORD, N.C. - May 31, 2002) - The word on the street, Food Lion Speed Street, was "best." From city officials to festivalgoers to participants, everyone described this year's street festival as the best. Fitting accolades to Special Events Magazine's pick as "World's Best Fair or Festival." One attendee described Food Lion Speed Street this way. In an e-mail dated Friday, May 24, to Clear Channel Communications, Johanna Van Alphen Mast said, "I was at the 96.1 concert last night at Speed Street. I stood there for over an hour and listened to Herman's Hermits, (and) surrounded by every kind of person you could think of. There was laughing, singing, clapping and so much more. Oh did I forget to mention it was the BEST TIME I've had in a long time…Speed Street was the place to be last night." Other concerts brought similar reactions. Crowds packed the fronts of stages for George Jones, .38 Special, Keith Urban, John Kay & Steppenwolf, Pat Green, Cameo, Better Than Ezra, and Seven Mary Three. .38 Special closed down the three-day spectacle with standing room only. At midnight, they played to a fireworks extravaganza backdrop, eliciting screams of delight from the crowd. "Food Lion Speed Street certainly measured up to its billing," said Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory. "The entire three days were just the best. You only had to be in Uptown Charlotte Thursday, Friday or Saturday, to see why people flock to Food Lion Speed Street. No admission, plenty to see and do, great food, national acts, celebrities, and lots of racing related venues. "This is an event for everyone," continued McCrory. "It is tied to the racing community and the thousands of racing fans that come to Charlotte each May, but the attendance figures underscore that this community is actively involved in the celebration." This year's attendance was estimated at more than 400,000, up nearly 20 percent from last year. JHE Production Group, the event producer, oversaw all logistics for driver appearances, more than 50 acts on four stages, and 30 special attractions and exhibits. Officials of JHE Production Group said the attendance increase is one of the most significant in recent years for the 600 Festival Association event and that the "picture perfect" weather was probably a contributing factor. Attendance for the UAW-GM Teamwork Parade, another in the 600 Festival Association's line-up of May events, also enjoyed increased attendance. A crowd estimate of 75,000 was reported. "I had the privilege to be part of both events," said Jimmie Johnson, driver of the Lowe's Chevrolet and 600 Festival Association's spokesperson. "Everything went so smoothly and everyone had such a great time. Every year I think it will be hard to top the last year, but I am convinced this year was the best." Food Lion Speed Street continues to enhance at-track activities at nearby Lowe's Motor Speedway and to usher in the Memorial Day weekend. With talk of expanding the city's presence in May activities, 600 Festival Association members, under the direction of JHE Production Group, stand ready to expand simultaneously.
